Taroko Gorge
I visited Taroko Gorge, which is a popular sightseeing place in the east of Taiwan.
A gorge is like a canyon.
Taroko Gorge is near the city of Hualien.
The gorge was nice, but public transport there was very bad. It was difficult to get around. Although there was a public bus to the entrance of the national park, there wasn't transport between the sites. And the public bus was unreliable. I waited for it to come, but it didn't. Fortunately some South Korean tourists offered me a ride on their tour bus. That was very kind of them!

Have fun,

Taiwanese Culture
Taiwan seemed like a blend of Japanese and Chinese culture.
It was occupied by Japan for many years before the war and so was influenced by Japan. There are many Japanese businesses and restaurants there. Japanese culture (especially manga, music and TV shows) is very popular in Taiwan.
Taiwan is of course now heavily influenced by China and people speak Mandarin.
I don't speak any Mandarin but I could read some of the signs because they used Chinese characters.
Although they are sometimes a bit different.

Most of the people I met in tourist places in Taipei could speak English and Japanese as well as Mandarin. But once I left Taipei, not as many people could speak English.
