Snow Monkey Onsen
On the weekend I stayed at Yudanaka Onsen (湯田中温泉), a small onsen town in Nagano.
Near Yudanaka is a place called Jigokudani Yaen-Koen (地獄谷野猿公苑), a wild monkey park.

There is an onsen there and the monkeys go and have a bath in the hot spring. (People don't get in the bath - just the monkeys). It's really interesting to see lots of monkeys taking a bath.
The monkey onsen is well known overseas because it features in the opening scenes of the movie Baraka (a nature documentary). Many of my Japanese friends had never heard of it before.
